OSP UG Equipment Operator

Location: Southern MD Area and throughout MD, DC and VA

This position is responsible for operating all underground equipment to include backhoe, trencher, plow, as well as performing other duties as required for all projects assigned. Honest, dependable, hardworking, safety conscious, long term, committed employees with previous experience required.

Estimator/Project Manager

Location: Tidewater Virginia Region

This position is for an experienced Low Voltage Telecom Estimator who is a driven team player. This position requires demonstrable previous experience in ISP & OSP Telecommunications (Electronic Security background is a plus but not required). Candidates must be able to work with extreme focus and efficiency.

Essential Job Functions, Duties & Responsibilities

  • Estimating and pricing the labor, equipment and material costs to deliver on project scope and specifications
  • Interface and follow up with clients
  • Generate project leads through business development
  • Communicate job requirements, inclusions and exclusions to Project Managers
  • Produce accurate, detailed estimates from drawings
  • Assess site conditions and be able to appropriately analyze cost and reflect these in an estimate
  • Identify constructability issues through the estimating process

  • 5 – 10 years experience with ISP & OSP low voltage projects

This position will be working with grading and underground utility operations. Qualified candidates must perform duties as directed by foreman in the installation or maintenance of underground utilities. Essential Job Functions, Duties & Responsibilities

  • Assists crews with general ground duties and safely controls traffic in SMC work areas.
  • Places traffic control devices and acts as flag person to safely control traffic.
  • Assists crew in taking inventory and stocking SMC trucks with necessary hardware/supplies.
  • Mobilize equipment, including loading, unloading, setup and tear down.
  • Assists crews with underground utilities as directed. This would include but would not be limited to various ground duties i.e. digging, backfilling, tamping, handling materials, etc.
  • Operate tools as directed by foreman
  • Report any unsafe conditions to foreman
  • Perform all duties according to prescribed safety procedures and use appropriate safety equipment
  • Perform other duties as assigned with positive attitude.

  • 1 years’ experience in the Outside Plant Construction field preferred, but not required

Traffic Control Flaggers

FLSA: Full-time, Non-exempt

Location: MD, 25% travel

This position is an entry level position with room to grow in various fields. This position will implement traffic control operations, lane closures, road closures, setting signs and devices, per compliance with local, state and federal rules and regulations.

Essential Job Functions, Duties & Responsibilities

  • Lift, carry, load, set up, remove, and unload traffic control devices, including signs, barricades, etc
  • Properly lay out the traffic control equipment per the designated Traffic Control Plan
  • Operate and utilize company vehicles of various sizes, trailer mounted warning signs, cones, delineators, drums, barricades, signs and various other traffic control devices to transport materials and equipment
  • Repair equipment, assemble signs, and perform all other work required to prepare for onsite traffic control

Education, Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • 1-years of experience in the traffic control industry preferred but not required
  • Maryland Temporary Traffic Control Manager Card preferred
  • MUTCD and traffic control setup regulations knowledge
  • HS Diploma or GED preferred but not required

Outside Plant Construction Field Superintendent

FLSA: Full-time, Non-exempt

Location: MD, DC, & VA

This position oversees the daily Outside Plant Construction activities at a work site. The Field Superintendent is responsible for the overall progress of the project including scheduling of workers, delivery of equipment and materials, as well as keeping the project on track and within budget.

Essential Job Functions, Duties & Responsibilities

  • Ability to read and understand contract documents, drawings and specifications, as well as understand building systems, construction materials, electrical, design and engineering concepts applicable to data & telecommunications infrastructure projects
  • Perform site visits, surveys and document existing conditions, as well as develop a plan for manpower and equipment through scheduling
  • Work in collaboration with a network of subcontractors and material suppliers, to guarantee best value pricing, timely estimates and quality of work available on every project
  • Familiar with Outside Plant (OSP) construction methods and recommendations relative to copper, fiber-optic installations, aerial, directional boring, backhoe, trenching, and plowing operations as well as digger and bucket truck operations

Education, Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • 3-5 years successful experience as an Outside Plant Field Superintendent, or similar position
  • Valid Driver’s License is required with clean driving record
  • A combination of technical training and experience is required, a degree in a related field is a plus but not required
  • Experience in proposal development and projects for and/or customer experience with federal, state, local governments and commercial installations

Outside Plant Construction Project Manager

This position is responsible for coordinating all aspects of Underground Utility and Outside Plant data and telecommunications infrastructure construction projects including planning, scheduling and managing keeping the project on track, within budget, in compliance and positioned for timely completion with exceptional quality.

Essential Job Functions, Duties & Responsibilities

  • Ability to read and understand contract documents, drawings and specifications, as well as understand building systems, construction materials, electrical, design and engineering concepts applicable to data & telecommunications infrastructure projects
  • Perform site visits, conduct site surveys and document existing conditions, as well as perform take-offs, submit RFQ’s and RFI’s, develop scope of work based on contract documents complete with scope inclusions, exclusions & classifications
  • Work in collaboration with a network of subcontractors and material suppliers, to guarantee best value pricing, timely estimates and quality of work available on every project
  • Review suppliers/subcontractors quotes for completeness with project plans & specifications, design options and recommend solutions based on cost, engineering quality and/or availability of materials
  • Establish preliminary construction schedule and duration
  • Familiar with various Inside Plant (ISP) and Outside Plant (OSP) construction methods including structured cabling and wiring methods such as building conduit and riser cabling design, analysis, and recommendations relative to CAT5e, CAT6, copper, fiber-optic, and coaxial cable installations, aerial, directional boring, backhoe, trenching, and plowing operations as well as digger and bucket truck operations

Education, Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • 5-10 years successful experience as a commercial construction estimator with projects ranging from $250,000.00 to $10,000,000.00
  • Bachelor’s Degree in construction management, engineering or related discipline or the equivalent combination of technical training and experience
  • Experience in proposal development and projects for and/or customer experience with federal, state, local governments and commercial installations
  • Experience using Sage 300 Construction (Timberline) is encouraged but not required
  • Strong computer skills with Visio, CAD, and MS Office i.e. Excel and MS Project

Aerial Communications Linemen

This position will be responsible for stringing and maintaining fiber optic cable which includes pulling, tensioning, and stranding. This individual must be able to maintain and repair overhead fiber lines. This position will require proficiency with new cable installs, pole transfers, strand building, lashing, make readies, and equipment mounting.

Essential Job Functions, Duties & Responsibilities

  • Outside plant installations and operations not limited to framing, mounting, pulling, and grounding, installing demarcation enclosures and switches, providing splice closure hangings and lowerings, building bays, fiber distribution panels, inner-ducts, jumper pathways and other network elements needed for the installation of fiber optic equipment and patch-cords
  • Monitor, communicate and perform corrective actions to fix problems affecting any fiber or fiber related equipment
  • Provide emergency restoration services and line recovery
  • Support new business development and customer service by being available and responsive to internal and external customers and for new business inquiries
  • Provide detailed paperwork and documentation to ensure accurate record-keeping, billing and inventory
  • Follow and implement all Miss Utility Laws

This position is responsible for operating Directional Drilling Equipment, locating equipment, and small dirt equipment, as well as performing other duties as required for each directional bore project.

  • Safely and efficiently mobilize, setup and operate HDD equipment to maximize daily productivity and quality, while providing resolution to problems that may arise at drill site
  • Monitor locating process and equipment during the drilling phases
  • Add or remove drill rods, and carry out basic maintenance of drills, including lubricating and cleaning and report any mechanical issues to manager
  • Operate other equipment as necessary including trenchers, mini excavators, and backhoes
