Drill Operator and Locator

FLSA: Full Time, Non-Exempt

Location: MD, DC, and VA

Job Description: Southern Maryland Cable, Inc. dba SMC Infrastructure Solutions, a well-established company headquartered in Southern Maryland is seeking experienced operators and locators. This position is responsible for operating drilling equipment, locating equipment, and small dirt equipment, as well as performing other duties as required for each directional bore project.

Essential Job Functions, Duties & Responsibilities

  • Safely and efficiently setup and operate HDD equipment to maximize daily productivity and quality
  • Monitor locating process and equipment during the drilling phases
  • Provide resolution to any potential problems that may arise at drill site
  • Add or remove drill rods
  • Carry out basic maintenance of drills, including lubricating and cleaning and report any mechanical issues to manager
  • Operate equipment including but not limited to trenchers, mini excavators, and backhoes as necessary
  • Mobilize equipment including loading, unloading, setup and tear down
  • Demonstrate courtesy and professionalism
  • Take direction easily and respect changes in priorities and timing as requested by manager
  • Perform other duties as assigned with positive attitude
  • Use appropriate safety equipment while following prescribed safety procedures

Education, Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • 1-year experience with operating HDD equipment and/or similar heavy equipment in various conditions
  • CDL Driver’s License or commitment to obtain one once in the position
  • Must be able to work in a team environment with excellent communication skills
  • Enjoy working outdoors in varying elements
  • Able to work in confined spaces
  • Safe performance record
  • Clean driving record
  • Able to pass pre-employment and random drug testing

Traffic Control Supervisor

FLSA: Full Time, Non-Exempt

Location: Customer Sites throughout MD, 25% travel

Job Description: Southern Maryland Cable, Inc. dba SMC Infrastructure Solutions, a well-established company headquartered in Southern Maryland is seeking a Traffic Control Supervisor to implement and oversee traffic control operations, lane closures, road closures, setting signs and devices, per compliance with local, state and federal rules and regulations.

Essential Job Functions, Duties & Responsibilities

  • General supervision of all Traffic Control Technicians
  • Oversee the maintenance, repair, construction and testing of traffic control equipment
  • Report inventory to dispatch and arrange for the return of damaged equipment
  • Regular, punctual attendance is required
  • Lift, carry, load, and unload traffic control devices, including signs, barricades, etc.
  • Set up and remove traffic control equipment at a jobsite
  • Properly lay out the traffic control equipment per the designated Traffic Control Plan
  • Operate company trucks to transport materials and equipment to and from job site
  • Repair equipment, assemble signs, and perform all other work required to prepare for onsite traffic control

Education, Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • 2-years of experience in the traffic control industry 
  • MUTCD knowledge 
  • HS Diploma or GED
  • Must have valid driver’s license with clean driving record
  • Ability to communicate effectively, follow simple instructions, and learn proper methods and techniques for installing and testing voice/data communication systems  
  • Basic math skills
  • Ability to effectively communicate in English (written and verbal) with customers and the public
  • Proficient in traffic control setup regulations

Physical Requirements & Work Environment 

  • Requires standing for prolonged periods of time while using hands to handle, control or lift objects with a strong grip
  • Ability to operate and utilize vehicles of various sizes, trailer mounted warning signs, cones, delineators, drums, barricades, signs and various other traffic control devices 
  • Ability to utilize full range of motion of arms and legs in repetitive motions
  • Requires raising, lifting and carrying of up to 50lb
  • Requires ability to step onto tailgate of a truck
  • Ability to work outside in varying conditions for extended periods
  • Requires being in construction environment with the risks associated
  • Ability to work near moving mechanical parts, heavy equipment and moving vehicular traffic with exposure to reasonable noise levels
  • Must be able to work in a consistent state of alertness and safe manner regardless of surrounding conditions
  • Ability to work well with others in a team environment and maintain a positive work environment
